Respect the Nigerian identity

Nigerians are know for their strong cultural background, when it comes to custom and tradition its never towed with.

Respecting elders is part of our societal norms whereby the daily greeting which seem to be a form of good wishes to an individual is taken as respect.

In Nigeria when the younger ones come in contact with an elderly person they tend to greet them in the local language or mother tongue, they might also use the general English language(good morning or otherwise).

A child who greet his elders and also talks politely is always termed respectful in our society;Respecting people is something the parent start to teach their children from a tender age, whereby they ask the child to greet them in the morning, and also teach them how to talk to their elder ones politely.
In some cases when a younger one or a respectful adult want to give a handshake,he does it with both of his hand showing a sign of respect to whoever he or she is shaking hands with.

Respect is also thought in school;for example when a teacher walk into a classroom the student or pupil stand up to greet the teacher or even a parent showing an act of respect to them.A child or an adult who is termed disrespectful always lack the ability to properly greet an elderly person or talk politely to people be it an elder or a respectful younger one.

Children or adult who are disrespectful always bring shame and ridicule to their parent and family as people will blame the parent for not properly bringing up the child(because the child becomes the disrespectful adult).

Today in our society things are gradually changing even as they call it modernization,
Parent no longer teach their children respect from home. young boys and girls hardly greet an elderly one if they come in contact, they tend to copy the western culture which encourage disrespect,Africans in general need to go back to the old good days and bring back our great culture of respect,so we can have the usual peaceful and respectful society we once enjoyed.
